Insurance may not cover all electronic devices

US-based travel insurer APRIL Travel Protection has issued a statement that explains how mobile devices may or may not be covered under many travel insurance policies. This follows Samsung’s suspension of production on the Note 7 following a series of fires, some of which are reported to have occurred on airplanes.

APRIL says that travellers may find that their personal effects coverage will normally only extend to US$500, which may not be adequate. It adds that some policies combine consumer electronics with jewellery and other seemingly unrelated items, which restricts the maximum total combined payout. “Some policies may not cover your iPhone at all," warns Jason Schreier, CEO of APRIL USA.
