New app tries to keep travellers out of trouble

Company brief

Travel insurer Dr. Walter has created an app for its customers that informs them of increased health and safety risks whilst abroad. Named MY-SAFETY-ASSISTANT, the app provides users with information about strikes, environmental disasters, riots and civil unrest, epidemics and terrorist attacks, according to the insurer, in over 200 countries.

The app can also track customers, meaning that their location is recorded and shared with whomever the customer wants. Customers are able to get the app free for their first year of use, but after that will have to pay.

According to Reinhard Bellinghausen, managing director of Dr. Walter, MY-SAFETY-ASSISTANT aims to ‘equip travellers with any relevant risk information’ and avoid potentially costly disasters.
