Measles on cruise ship
Health

Passengers onboard a ship that departed on 6 August and cruised from Vancouver, Canada, to Seward in Alaska, have been advised to be alert for measles symptoms. According to health officials, a teenager on the cruise ship had measles, which prompted concerns that passengers might spread the disease further. After boarding in Vancouver, the teenager was promptly isolated and the risk of infection to others is therefore said to be low.

Although generally benign, infection with measles can lead to severe illness or death and travellers are recommended to check their immunisation for measles and other childhood diseases at least six weeks before departure.
