Winter sports holidays more popular
The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) recently carried out a survey, the findings of which show that winter sports holidays are becoming increasingly popular. ABTA’s survey took in over 2,000 consumer respondents, and found that 15 per cent of those planning to take a holiday in the next few months (from October) were opting for either skiing or snowboarding trips, compared with only 10 per cent in a similar survey carried out at the same time in 2012. Ski breaks are most popular among those aged 16 to 24, but although bookings for ski trips have risen over the last year, so-called ‘winter sun’ breaks – to destinations such as the Canary Islands, Greece, Malta and Tunisia – are still the most popular bookings for travellers wishing to avoid the cold UK winter.
