UK cutting red list countries has implications for travel insurers
UK travel insurer battleface bolstered by UK Government taking 47 countries off its Covid red list
The red list originated from the UK’s traffic light system created by the Department of Transport which outlines what travellers need to do when entering England. This system was simplified by the UK Government on 4 October 2021 to a ‘red-list’ and the ‘rest-of-the-world’ list.
Katie Crowe, Director of Communications for battleface, said: “The cuts to the red list is much welcomed for families needing to reunite with loved ones, travellers on business, those on much delayed leisure trips and the travel industry, but travellers still need to be clear what restrictions are in place.
“The FCDO advisories differ from the Department of Transport’s red list – and there is little alignment still - which could have significant implications for travel insurance policies. Unlike most travel insurance plans, battleface travel insurance offers peace of mind for all travellers as we cover worldwide destinations regardless of Covid-19 restrictions or government travel advisories.”
battleface policies include cover for medical expenses caused by or resulting from Covid-19 for travellers aged 59 or under. This benefit does not include cover in relation to Covid-19 expenses for trip cancellations, curtailment of a holiday, self-isolation, or lockdowns. All other benefits remain available as standard for travellers aged one month or over on the date of travel and 79 years or under when the trip, for which this insurance is purchased, finishes.
