TSSA calls for sector specific support of travel industry
Manuel Cortes, UK Transport Salaried Staffs' Association (TSSA) General Secretary, addressed the plight of the tourism sector in his New Year address
He said Omicron had ‘come at a particularly bad time for travel’, occurring just as the peak selling period got under way. The industry had been ‘battered by Covid’, he said, adding: “It may fall on deaf ears, but I want to repeat my call for sector specific support and a minister for travel.”
Cortes compared travel to the railways, which he claimed were undergoing ‘a managed decline’ by the government. “The same can be said of our travel industry,” he added.
Meanwhile, the travel industry is urging policymakers to co-ordinate their efforts and work together.
