The Travelers Companies, Inc., a provider of property liability insurance, has announced that Matthew Wilson (pictured) has joined the company as its new chief operating offi cer (COO) in Europe. Wilson is based in London and reports to chief executive offi cer Sean Genden, who previously held the role of COO until his promotion last year. Wilson joins Travelers from Willis Group Ltd, where he has worked since 2000, holding a variety of roles during that time, including COO of Willis Global Specialities Division and compliance and legal affairs director of Willis’ International Division. Sean Genden said of the appointment: “Matthew is a highly skilled manager with an impressive track record and I’m delighted to welcome him to the role of COO. The organisation will greatly benefit from Matthew’s breadth of experience and skills as we continue to develop our business and reputation as one of the world’s leading insurers.” Wilson said joining Travelers represented ‘an excellent opportunity and I approach it with great enthusiasm’. Elsewhere at Travelers, Rob Cage has taken up his role as chief underwriting offi cer for Travelers in Europe. Cage, who has over 30 years’ experience in the insurance industry, will report to Travelers Europe CEO Sean Genden. In his role, Cage is responsible for continuing the development and implementation of Travelers’ European underwriting strategies. Sean Genden said: “We’re thrilled that Rob has joined us. He is a very well-known and respected market leader with a reputation for excellence in commercial lines underwriting.”
