The Times issues apology to TIF
British news outlet The Times has issued an apology to Travel Insurance Facilities plc (TIF) over allegations made back in November 2018
On 20 November 2018, The Times published a front-page article titled ‘Boots travel insurer faces investigation over deaths’, the content of which was also reported in the December 2018 issue of ITIJ. The Times also published two further articles on 20 and 24 November 2018 respectively titled ‘I begged, but they wouldn’t pay to bring my dad home’ and ‘Insurer left my aunt to die, says Lloyd’s boss’.
In these articles, it was alleged that TIF had implemented a pattern of fraudulent practice that had likely led to a number of avoidable deaths. In Feb 2019, ITIJ published TIF’s response to The Times’ allegation. The Times have now accepted that this allegation was untrue and have apologised to TIF. “We now accept that this allegation is untrue. We apologise to Travel Insurance Facilities plc and have agreed to pay substantial damages and costs,” The Times wrote.
