Therapeutic oxygen announcement from BA
Medical escorts using British Airways should be aware that from 1 February 2018, the airline has announced that it will no longer provide therapeutic oxygen on board short-haul flights. Customers travelling before this date, however, may continue to request and use therapeutic oxygen using the current process. The move includes all short-haul segments of an itinerary, even if customers are connecting to or from long-haul flights.
A statement from BA made it clear that it is only short-haul flights on which customers will notice a change: “We will continue to provide therapeutic oxygen on long-haul flights, free of charge. Customers travelling on short-haul flights will be permitted to bring their own oxygen provisions on board, but we will no longer offer therapeutic oxygen on these flights due to the high cost of delivering this service.”
If customers require therapeutic oxygen on short-haul flights on or after 1 February 2018, they will need to make their own oxygen provisions for all short-haul segments of their itinerary. Passengers are still required to obtain medical clearance in advance to make their own oxygen provisions.
