South Korea’s national health insurance scheme pulls in 500k users in first few months
Around 500,000 people have subscribed to the country’s National Health Service after South Korea enforced mandatory health insurance cover for foreigners residing in the country back in July
In response to the new regulations, Lawmaker Ki Dong-min noted that according to data, the insurance premium collection rate for these foreigners is not high. Nevertheless, reports detail that foreigners newly subscribed to health insurance are required to pay more than KRW110,000 ($92.90) in health insurance premiums every month.
Mr Ki added: “The government needs to examine whether health insurance premiums are being levied to match income levels and family members.”
