Shark attack in Sharm el-Sheikh
Three Russian tourists have been attacked by what is thought to be an oceanic white tip shark in three separate incidents at the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, resulting in nearly all water sports at the resort being suspended. One of the tourists is believed to be in a critical condition at a hospital in the capital Cairo, while the others suffered serious injuries and were also hospitalised. Authorities have said they are searching for the shark, which they hope to capture and release back into the open sea. The popularity of Sharm el-Sheikh for European tourists heading for some winter sun is renowned, and so the decision to suspend watersports activities would not have been taken lightly, according to Jon Leyne, the BBC’s correspondent in Cairo.
