New Year’s Eve destination tips for travellers
With New Year’s Eve on the horizon and many people making plans for how they will see in 2020, WalletHub has released its report on 2019’s Best Places for New Year’s Eve Celebrations
The personal finance website compared 100 of the biggest US cities across 28 key metrics, including legality of fireworks, the average price of a New Year’s Eve party ticket and forecast precipitation for 31 December.
For holidays like New Year’s Eve, it is critical that one must plan ahead rather than wait till the last minute
New York came out on top as the best overall city ─ despite being the most expensive of all 100 destinations, it boasts the most nightlife options, the most restaurants and the most luxury shops and gourmet food stores. It was closely followed by Denver and then Las Vegas, while the three cities at the bottom of the list were Stockton, North Las Vegas and Fremont.
Speaking about important factors when making New Year’s plans, Dr Wei Wei of the Rosen College of Hospitality Management, University of Central Florida, said that the most crucial considerations are travel purpose, time and money. She also advised travellers to book in advance. “For holidays like New Year’s Eve, it is critical that one must plan ahead rather than wait till the last minute. The earlier you plan the trip, the more likely you can obtain some special rates or discounts,” she stated.
Dr Mary Jo Ross of the College of Business at Slippery Rock University agrees: “For holidays like New Year’s Eve, it is critical that one must plan ahead rather than wait till the last minute. The earlier you plan the trip, the more likely you can obtain some special rates or discounts,” she said.
So, rather than flocking to New York for that dream holiday, travellers may want to save on money and stress by staying closer to home. Unless they have been organised enough to book in advance, in which case, they may have been able to snatch up a great deal.
