Mystery illness under investigation
The cause of a mystery illness that has sickened 25 people and killed 12 since 23 April is under investigation. The illness began in south-eastern Liberia and has spread to the capital.
Ebola and Lassa fever have been ruled out by local health agencies. The first cases, which were reported in Sinoe County, were initially believed to relate to rites conducted at a funeral. Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhoea, fever and headaches. Testing of samples from victims is underway in the US.
