Just two per cent of Brits prioritise TI
According to new figures from the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), only two per cent of the British public prioritise travel insurance when planning a holiday. This contrasts with a recent YouGov survey commissioned by Aquarium Software, in which over half of British respondents said that they always cover their travel plans with insurance.
The FCO survey also found that while 77 per cent of those aged 55 and over are planning to take a trip this summer, one in 20 of these travellers have a pre-existing medical condition that they will knowingly avoid declaring when purchasing insurance. Aquarium also surveyed this demographic and found that 60 per cent of those aged 55 and over always have travel insurance coverage. This is nine per cent above the national average.
“Our YouGov survey showed 46 per cent see travel insurance as a ‘necessary evil’, so it is not surprising it is not afforded ‘priority’ status when planning a holiday,” said Aquarium Software Director Mark Colonnese. “Given the high cost of medical bills and repatriation, false declaration, however, is seriously false economy. New technology will help make it easier for customers to take out travel insurance and make it crystal clear that medical conditions need to be declared to be covered.”
