ITIJ’s June 2021 issue – out now!
How the global travel insurance industry can best prepare for the reopening of travel; how the pandemic has spurred demand for trip cover; and the rise and rise of staycation insurance
With small steps being taken by governments around the world to ease social distancing and travel restrictions, there’s more news this month of progress being made in the long-awaited reopening of travel lanes. The EU has laid out its plans to open member states to tourists once more, Singapore and Hong Kong have reestablished a travel bubble, and Brits now have a ‘green list’ of countries that do not require quarantine on returning to England.
Although the Indian variant of the coronavirus is currently causing concern in many countries, and the cost of PCR tests has become a barrier to travel booking in the UK, pent-up demand for travel is evident. Fortunately, a number of recent surveys by major insurers have shown a simultaneous increase in the number of people saying they will be more likely to purchase travel insurance as a result of the pandemic.
In this issue, we take an in-depth look at how travel insurers around the world have been adapting their policies to meet the evolving needs of travellers and how they can best prepare to address new consumer demands. The industry is at once needing to navigate greater complexities in order to assess new risks, while also simplifying their consumer-facing processes.
Also in this issue: details of the 2021 ITIJ Awards, which are now open for entries; staycation insurance has never been so popular; insurers advised to rethink the consumer experience; and news of ITIJ’s new editorship.
