Isle of Man and Guernsey make reciprocal health agreement
Travellers from the Isle of Man to Guernsey won’t have to pay for emergency medical treatment, according to the Isle of Man government
This temporary health agreement between the two self-governing British crown dependencies will only last for the duration of the air corridor between the two. It also includes subsequent medical care and air ambulance transfers from the islands to the UK.
David Ashford, Health Minister for the Isle of Man, said the agreement is a ‘progressive step for the mutual benefit of our people’.
The islands have both been without any confirmed Covid-19 cases for some time. However, travellers will still need travel and medical insurance to cover any costs incurred by health services that aren’t included by the agreement, including repatriation, ambulance services, GP appointments and dental care.
With Portugal and the Canary Islands deciding to cover medical costs for travellers through insurers, countries deciding to step in for their tourists’ medical expenses seems to be one of the new ways forward.
