Sustainability is a key factor in choosing travel brands and destinations

A survey conducted by YouGov for the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has revealed that the desire for international travel is now at its highest point since the beginning of the pandemic.

More than 26,000 consumers from 25 countries were surveyed and the results show that 63 per cent are planning a leisure trip in the next 12 months. Twenty-seven per cent are planning three or more trips during that time period.

The world’s biggest spenders are international travelers from Australia, with Canadian, Saudi Arabian and Filipino travelers also expected to spend more than others across the world.

Julia Simpson, WTTC President and CEO said: “This global survey shows that international travel is back. As we kick off our Global Summit in Riyadh bringing together global travel leaders and governments from around the world, travellers are getting ready to explore the world again.

“The results of this global survey also show the growing importance of sustainable travel amongst consumers.”

Sixty-one per cent of respondents said they prefer travel brands and destinations that are more sustainable. Almost half (45 per cent) admitted that they would only spend their hard-earned money with brands that are socially and environmentally responsible.

WTTC explained earlier this year that international traveler recovery in the US is underway.
