India forms panel of advisors for health insurance cover
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has drafted up an advisory committee to help decide upon appropriate medical coverage
According to local news agencies, the IRDAI has formed a 10-member committee of experts and specialist doctors that will examine the provision of health insurance products in the country in order to protect the interest of policy holders, as well as to drive innovative new offerings.
The committee, which was formed in early January 2021, will also recommend suitable health insurance products, such as expanded coverage for Covid-19, and advise on ways to improve the claims processes for policyholders.
The new development comes following expanded development of the health insurance industry in India, which recently ranked among the top countries worldwide in terms of insurance potential.
It’s not yet 100-per-cent clear the impact this will have on international patient care, but with a promise of improved health insurance provision in the country, there will no doubt be a drive to also further enhance the quality and access to healthcare in the country. Watch this space.
