IATA: passenger growth rising
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced global passenger air traffic results for February, showing that, as a result of stronger business confi dence – particularly in emerging economies – growth is accelerating, with passenger demand showing a 3.7-per-cent rise compared to February 2012. Demand has been growing at an annualised rate of nine per cent since last October, almost double the growth trend of the fi rst nine months of 2012, while capacity is up one per cent on last February and the industry load factor stands at 77.1 per cent. Asia-Pacifi c carriers recorded a year-on-year increase of 4.5 per cent, while European carriers recorded 0.8-per-cent growth and North American airline traffic rose by a mere 0.3 per cent. Latin American airlines recorded seven-per-cent growth, and African airlines grew by 7.7 per cent.
