Global healthcare emergency over Covid-19 extended
WHO extends global healthcare emergency over Covid-19 by three months
The World Health Organization (WHO) has extended its global healthcare emergency over the Covid-19 pandemic by three months, the WHO Emergency Committee has said in a statement issued in Geneva on 19 April.
The Director-General determined that the Covid-19 pandemic continues to constitute a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC). He accepted the advice of the Committee to WHO and issued the Committee’s advice to States Parties as Temporary Recommendations, the statement says.
The Emergency Committee will be reconvened within three months or earlier, at the discretion of the Director-General.
In March, Finland declared a state of emergency, as an increase in Covid cases in the country, including a new daily record, had led to pressure to close bars and restaurants.
