merger

The Iowa-based hospital network’s six medical centers will be integrated into MercyOne’s healthcare operations

MercyOne has completed its takeover of the Iowa-based Genesis Health System, adding the company’s six medical centers and over 100 other care sites to its network – joining the 16 hospitals it already operates in the US state.

The announcement closes a process that began in September 2022, when the two Iowan healthcare providers signed a letter of intent outlining plans to explore a ‘strategic partnership’ together.

In a statement, Bob Ritz, President and CEO of MercyOne said: “We are excited to welcome Genesis to MercyOne and look forward to shaping a framework to enhance access to personalised, convenient healthcare across eastern Iowa and western Illinois.”

Work to integrate the two healthcare systems is currently underway, but is not expected to disrupt healthcare provision for clients of either provider.

The merger will have ramifications for Genesis Philanthropy, a charity run by the healthcare system. The organisation, which helps residents of eastern Iowa and western Illinois, is being spun out as a fully independent entity called the Better Health Foundation.

AXA Philippines has also conducted a merger with its general insurance subsidiary, Charter Ping An Insurance Corporation.
