Fifty-three per cent of Americans haven’t been on holiday in the past year
The seventh annual Allianz Travel Insurance Vacation Confidence Index has found that 170 million Americans (53 per cent) have not been on holiday (defined as a leisure trip of at least a week to a place that is 100 miles or more from home) in the past 12 months.
According to Allianz Global Assistance, this figure is three points down from last year’s figure of 56 per cent. It has also found that only 15 per cent of Americans have been on holiday in the past three months, while 37 per cent haven’t been on holiday in more than two years.
“We’ve only seen the slightest increase in Americans taking a vacation this year,” said director of communications at Allianz Global Assistance USA Daniel Durazo. “Our findings show that Americans continue to be plagued by an alarming vacation deficit.”
