Egypt healthcare

Following the rollout of a government health insurance system, the IFE says that the country needs a platform that facilitates the exchanging of health data and information across both public and private institutions

The Insurance Federation of Egypt (IFE), which works to enhance the abilities of the insurance industry in Egypt through the development of scientific and cultural advancements, insists that the country needs an interconnected digital healthcare platform that will assist insurance companies in determining pricing.

It would be used by all players in the sector to exchange information and health data – from public organisations that are affiliated with the state through comprehensive government health insurance system to private sector insurance companies or healthcare companies, the IFE says.

The new technology solutions will also connect thousands of service providers such as hospitals, laboratories, etc.

Regulating healthcare pricing

Currently, Egypt is in the throes of rolling out a comprehensive health insurance system, and IFE believes that an interconnected digital healthcare platform will play a pivotal role in the success of this: an electronic platform is needed to process and exchange data between insurers, healthcare companies and the government.

The platform should be able to set premium rates for specific services provided by a specific segment of service providers according to the classification and degree of the services rendered, while linking service providers with insurance companies and the companies’ medical insurance client base, the IFE says.
