Dubai set to improve its medical billing system
Dubai is set to adopt a new, improved medical billing system, that of the International Refined Diagnosis Related Group (DRG)
The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) authorised the change, which will come into effect in February 2020. The new system will use algorithms to fix base fees for treatments of a range of health conditions and provides ease of payment.
Director General of DHA Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qutami noted that health insurance coverage has expanded exponentially since 2019 after the mandatory medical insurance law came into effect, with more than 5.1 million insurance policies having been adopted by that year compared to less than 600,000 in 2013.
Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qutami also noted that under the house insurance cover, the policyholder can now benefit from healthcare services anywhere in the UAE.
