Dr Walter offers improved app service
Following the popularity of its first travel safety app, German travel insurer Dr Walter has developed a new offering – My Safety App 2
In addition to the features of the first app, which included live location tracking and real-time travel alerts if an event were to occur that presented a heightened risk to a traveller, the new app also offers immediate emergency assistance and telemedicine advice around the world, as well as online storage for insurance and travel documents. In a generous move, Dr Walter is offering the app without any charge to users – the only cost will be for the data if a traveller were to make use of the emergency assistance hotline.
Dr Walter has not been sitting idle during the coronavirus lockdown, it said in a recent statement; the company has also recently developed its new ProTrip World travel insurance policy that covers medical treatment needed as a result of Covid-19. The company commented: “Dr Walter has always stood for fair settlement of claims when it comes to re-booking and cancellation options. This is especially valuable right now when travellers have their holiday plans thwarted by travel warnings or restrictions, or when they suddenly feel insecure and do not dare to venture into the wide world again. So, it is good to know that ProTrip World can be cancelled free of charge before the start of the insurance. If a traveller wants to return home earlier, they can cancel the policy – with insurance periods calculated to the day – and they will simply be reimbursed for any overpayment.”
It's heartening to see that so many travel and health insurance providers have taken the opportunity to further develop and improve the products they are offering to the international marketplace. Travellers are seeking security in an unstable travelling environment, and products that can offer some peace of mind to tourists and longer-term visitors, such as apps, are a great way of demonstrating that customers can rely on their insurers when they need them the most.
