Flights were disrupted on Wednesday 14 September in a bid to ensure silence over the capital, as the Queen’s coffin continued its ceremonial procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall.
Heathrow confirmed that ‘further changes’ were expected in the coming days ahead of the Queen’s funeral, and that these would be communicated later this week.
The procession of the Queen’s coffin from central London to the funeral in Windsor is also expected to impact local roads surrounding the airport, potentially adding to the delay.
“Passengers travelling to the airport are advised to consider alternative routes, such as the Piccadilly or Elizabeth lines or Heathrow Express,” the airport’s management has advised. “We apologize for the disruption caused, as we work to limit the impact on the upcoming events.”
