Covid-19 update: Reported cases and lockdown measures across Asia

Asia’s Covid-19 cases reported at 478,667; students returning to school in Shanghai and Beijing, Malaysia and Philippines extend lockdown until mid-May
Asia currently counts 478,667 Covid-19 cases, with the countries reporting most cases being Turkey (112,261), Iran (91,472), China (83,938), India (29,435) and Saudi Arabia (18,811).
In Shanghai and Beijing, students are returning to school after months of closures, while Thailand has recorded nine new infections, the first time the number of new cases has dropped to single digits.
Singapore has emerged as a new Covid-19 hotspot in Asia, confirming an additional 799 cases of the virus within 24 hours.
Indonesia has halted all passenger travel in an attempt to curb trips to hometowns during Ramadan. Meanwhile, Malaysia has extended its lockdown to 12 May.
The Philippines have also extended their lockdowns until mid-May, while Vietnam has started easing its social distancing measures after reporting no new Covid-19 cases.
