The National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC) has issued an update regarding the ongoing outbreaks of chikungunya virus in the Americas and the Caribbean. As of 18 July, there had been 436,568 cases – probable and confirmed – of the virus, with at least 26 deaths, and autochthonous transmission of chikungunya had been observed in Aruba, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Dominica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, French Guiana, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Haiti, Martinique, Panama, Puerto Rico, Saint-Barthélemy, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Martin, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Sint Maarten, Suriname, Turks and Caicos, the US, the US Virgin Islands and Venezuela. Infection had also been noted in travellers returning to Bolivia, Bonaire (Netherlands), Brazil, Canada, Chile, Cuba, France, Greece, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Spain, Switzerland, and Trinidad and Tobago from affected areas.
