Approval of AMII’s electronic data initiative marks industry milestone
With Cigna Europe adopting the new electronic transfer of data principles proposed by the AMII, the industry looks set to shift to digitally driven data operations
The Association of Medical Insurers and Intermediaries (AMII) has announced pan-industry approval of its landmark electronic transfer of data initiative, as it confirms Cigna Europe will be joining the likes of Aviva, AXA and Bupa in adopting the new protocols.
The Transfer of Personal Data & Underwriting initiative is an agreement for the electronic transfer of business between insurers for company schemes, both SME and corporate. Spearheaded by outgoing AMII Chairman, who drove an industry-wide consultation to streamline the underwriting process for advisers, the new initiative reduces the need for visits to offices to collect physical copies of membership certificates.
Incoming Executive Chairman at AMII, David Middleton, commented: “Cigna Europe signing up to the initiative marks the final piece in the puzzle – we now have an industry-wide agreement for the electronic transfer of data.”
Consumer healthcare market to benefit too
“Stuart drove this initiative to improve efficiency and push the industry forward,” continued Middleton. “Without his vision and hard work, we would still have been working in very outdated ways – these kinds of industry improvements lie at the heart of the AMII agenda.
“It’s a milestone moment and we shouldn’t stop here – looking ahead we’d hope to extend it into consumer healthcare too.”
In February 2021, Hospitals & Healthcare covered how insurers should adapt their offerings as per the increased risk exposure brought about by the rapid digitisation of medicine.
