American Airlines introduces health pass for passengers
American Airlines is the first US airline to introduce a mobile health passport to provide results from a negative Covid-19 test
The VeriFLY app, a mobile health passport that helps customers understand and verify their travel requirements, will be available for travellers from 23 January for travel from all international destinations. American is expanding access to the app in support of the US government’s requirement that all passengers two years of age and older traveling to the US from any international location test negative for Covid-19 within three calendar days of departure – a regulation that is due to come into effect from 26 January.
“We’re expanding our work with VeriFLY to quickly evolve our usage of the app and make international travel easier for our customers,” said Julie Rath, Vice-President of Customer Experience at American. “We support the implementation of a global programme to require Covid-19 testing for travellers to the US, and we want to do everything we can to make travel a seamless experience for customers. We’ve received positive feedback about the app so far and look forward to more customers having the opportunity to use it.”
Thousands of travellers have already used the app
Customers can already use VeriFLY to streamline their travel from the US to several countries, including Jamaica, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. To date, thousands of American Airlines customers have travelled using the app.
In October, American Airlines started collaborating with several foreign governments to offer preflight Covid-19 testing for customers travelling to international destinations, starting with Jamaica and the Bahamas.
