AIA Hong Kong launches new Covid-19 alert for its app users
AIA Hong Kong, part of the AIA life insurance group, has launched a Covid-19 alert service through its AIA connect app, which alerts users when they are within distance of probable or confirmed cases
Registered users – both customers and non-customers of AIA Hong Kong’s insurance offering – will receive mobile alerts from the app when they are around 200 metres of buildings with probable or confirmed cases, allow them to better limit their exposure to the virus.
This new app feature, which allows users to view details such as case number, gender and age for each listed case, combines data from the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer’s application programming interface (API) on the disease spread with GPS and geo-fencing technologies.
“AIA Hong Kong deeply understands the public’s concerns on the continued spread of Covid-19, so we are harnessing digital technology to help users closely track and be mindful of the locations of cases through the AIA Connect mobile app,” said Peter Crewe, CEO of AIA Hong Kong & Macau. “This initiative goes beyond the service scope of an insurance company and demonstrates another aspect of how we utilise technology to bring peace of mind and support to our customers during critical times.”
The company is also offering free enhanced protection and claim support measures, as well as providing free protection cover to frontline cleaning workers in Hong Kong and Macau. It is also distributing health protection kits to less privileged families through the AIA Foundation.
