New report on health insurance trends
A new report by private online health insurance exchange eHealth, Inc. that analyses costs and trends among eHealth customers in the first half of the 2019 open enrolment period under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) found that unsubsidised health insurance consumers are turning to short-term coverage.
The report focuses on costs borne by individuals and families who do not qualify for or receive federal subsidies and examines trends among people selecting short-term health insurance plans at eHealth. It covers the period between 1 November and 25 November 2018, comparing findings to the same period a year previously.
Key findings from the report include: that there is increased interest in short-term plans, short-term premiums are stable while deductibles increase, average family premiums for ACA plans have decreased by three per cent, and average individual deductibles for ACA plans decrease by seven per cent. eHealth said that it plans to follow up the report with additional updates on market costs and trends in the ACA market at the close of open enrolment.
