ETIAS launch delayed until 2025

The European Union (EU) has announced a further delay to its European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS)
ETIAS is a planned EU travel authorisation system for visa-exempt nationals travelling to 30 European countries. Implementation of the system was previously delayed until 2024, but has now reportedly been ‘rescheduled’ for May 2025.
According to an unnamed EU official speaking to SchengenVisaInfo.com, implementation of the bloc’s entry/exit system (EES) – an automated IT system that will register travellers from non-EU countries when they enter EU territory – has been pushed back ‘due to unforeseen delays’.
Consequently, implementation of the ETIAS system, which is directly reliant on EES, has been disrupted.
